INFX talks with Glastonbury's Michael Eavis

Glastonbury is one of the most famous outdoor festivals of the last 25 years. Some of the most prestigious bands and performers have played its famous stages. In 2005 153,000 people attended Glastonbury and it had a turnover of £18 million, of which, 1.3 million was donated to charity. Glastonbury brings £15 million a year to the Somerset economy, generating very welcome income for the village near the Vale of Avalon in which it is held. Project supported have included building social housing and a community village hall for its neighbours. Glastonbury is the highlight of the festival year and it still continues to grow in numbers.

With all that said it was no wonder why the talk with Glastonbury’s founder Michael Eavis, was the high light of the BCUC 2006 Enterprise Week. Supported by Sennheiser microphones and Shuttlesound ltd., the evening, the evening began with an acoustic performance by singer, songwriter, Guy Valarino. This was followed by the main event, with Michael answering questions from BCUC’s Head of Music & Entertainment, Frazer Mackenzie. The first topic was the history of Glastonbury and how it got started. Michael went on to explain the charity work Glastonbury does, both inside and outside the UK. He talked exclusively about plans for

Glastonbury 2007, which included more transport for the expected larger attendance (likely to be 180,000!) and the new photo ID for all entry tickets. The talk was then rounded off by a question and answer session, where the audience got to ask Michael much-awaited questions. Theses included what he does in his spare time and whether arranging Glastonbury every year was still fun, after so long. To which he replied ‘yes’! The night was rounded off with a performance from Oxford based act, ‘The Dirty Royalls’.
